SCENT WORK - MOCK TRIALS

The Tasmanian Dog Training Club, Hobart Dog Training Club and Ulverstone Kennel Club will be hosting Scent Work Mock Trials in the coming months.  These will be scheduled for September, October and November.

Definite dates, venues and entry costs will be advertised as soon as possible.

The mock trials will be run strictly under ANKC Rules for the conduct of Scent Work Trials - Effective from 1st July 2020.  The rules are available from the ANKC website - www.ankc.org.au under About Us, Rules.  (search for ANKC Rules).  Anyone thinking of entering the mock trials should download and study the rules so you know exactly what is involved and what to expect at a trial.

Scent Work Mock Trial Practice Session

The club is holding a mock trial practice session on Sunday 23rd August 12.30 p.m.   This session is for TDTC members who would be interested in entering their dog(s) into the mock trials.  The dog must be training on odour only and to Novice level.  No beginner dogs and no dogs which are still food-pairing.

The session will cost $10 per dog.  As the club can not handle cash/cheques due to covid-19 restrictions, the cost must be prepaid ASAP by bank transfer to account 113017743 - details at top of page - use 'surname Swork' as reference. You will need to bring harness/lead and food rewards.  You will be required to sign an insurance waiver to acknowledge that you are not covered against covid-19 by the club's insurance.  All other Federal/State/Dogs Tasmania guidelines/protocols will apply.

FURTHER TRAINING

At the  28th June club committee meeting it was decided that only the Basic Obedience and Puppy Pre-school courses will be offered for 2020.  Registration for these courses is advertised below.

All other training has been cancelled - there WILL NOT BE any tweenies, grades, master class, agility, scentwork, rally-obedience training/courses until February 2021 at the earliest.

While this will disappoint many members we feel the safety of all involved is the most imporatant factor in this uncertain situation.

CANCELLATION OF ALL REMAINING 2020 TRIALS

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the uncertainty of the situation over the next few months and to ensure the safety of all involved, the club has reluctantly made the decision to cancel all remaining trials for 2020.

This includes all Obedience, Rally-obedience, Agility/Jumping/Games and Track & Search trials scheduled from now until the end of 2020.

The decision was made at the club committee meeting on Sunday 28th June.  While this will disappoint many handlers, we feel safety is the most important factor.

Keep up your training in whichever sport, and hope to see you all back at trials at the club in 2021.

WELCOME TO THE TASMANIAN DOG TRAINING CLUB

We hope you and your dog will enjoy many happy hours training with us. A few reminders of things which help the club operate smoothly and ensure the safety of all members and their dogs.

-The club trains all Sundays from February to the end of November. Training will only be cancelled if the grounds become dangerous in the opinion of the Launceston City Council.

- Arrive on time for your class. The instructors do not always have time to repeat instructions for the benefit of latecomers.

- It is a Launceston City Council requirement that parking is in the car park outside the second boom gate. Parking inside the boom gate is restricted to instructors to ensure their dogs can be left in safety in the shade while they are conducting classes.

- Membership name badges must be worn when training. It helps the instructor to get to know you and your dog’s name. Annual membership is to 30th September each year. Your membership expiry date is printed on your name badge. You must be a current financial member to train with the club.

-Children must be at least 12 years of age to be included in dual/family membership.  Children under 12 years can not train a dog at the club.

- Children must be under the supervision of an adult at all times and are expected to behave appropriately. Please do not allow children to interrupt classes.

- Due to insurance requirements sensible, enclosed footwear must be worn and try to avoid loose, flappy clothing which can distract the dog – thongs are not permitted in class.

- Dogs must be supervised at all times. Do not tether your dog and leave it unattended. Do not leave your dog unattended in a car during hot weather. All droppings must be removed immediately by the handler and placed in the bin provided. Dogs must be on lead at all times.

- No smoking is allowed during training. No smoking within 3 meters of the clubhouse or within 20 meters of a trial ring.

-Mobile phones must be turned off or turned to mute setting during classes.

- Tea, coffee, bottled water and soft drinks are available from the clubhouse. Cost $1 per item. Please help yourself and put the money in the tin provided.

- Food rewards for dogs are available from the clubhouse freezer. Chicken loaf, low fat cheese, garlic sausage. Cost $2 per bag. Please put the money in the container provided. 20 seconds in the microwave will thaw the treats ready to use. If you take the last bag of treats, then please tell a committee member. Don’t just leave the empty container in the fridge.

- Bitches in season are not permitted at training and dogs suffering from any contagious disease or illness must not be brought to training.

YELLOW – GIVE ME SPACE - if you see a dog wearing a yellow ribbon/vest/bandanna it means that the dog has a personal space problem so you should give the dog plenty of space. Ask the dog’s handler before approaching yourself or allowing your dog to approach.

You should always ask permission before approaching another member’s dog when socializing. Be aware of your dog and other dogs and avoid confrontations. Move away from a dog that takes an obvious dislike to your dog, or vice versa.

The club welcomes any comments or suggestions which you think may help the club’s operation, so please pass them on to any of the instructors or committee members.

Dog Owners are respectfully reminded of the State Law, that it is compulsory for all dogs to be Micro Chipped.

Local Councils have designated 'on lead' and 'off lead' areas in which to exercise your dogs.  Please ensure, as a responsible dog owner, that you acquaint yourself with these designations before exercising your dogs and remember it is also a requirement that you pick up any droppings left by your dog.
